Dr. Newman-Cedar, commonly called “Dr. Meryl”, is a board certified Pediatrician who has been in private practice since 1986. She attended medical school at the SUNY-Downstate Medical Center and completed her internship and residency in Pediatrics at New York Presbyterian Hospital-Weill Cornell Medical Center. After her residency, Meryl did a fellowship in Child Development at NYPH where she remains active in the division. She serves as an attending pediatrician in the Early Intervention Program at the hospital where children under 3 years old come for evaluations, monitoring of their overall development and targeting any developmental issues.
Meryl is an Assistant Attending Pediatrician at NYPH-Cornell, a Clinical Instructor in Pediatrics at Weill-Cornell Medical Center, a member of the hospital’s Voluntary Faculty Committee and has nursery privileges at Lenox Hill Hospital. She is a preceptor to Weill-Cornell Medical College medical students and residents and has been the recipient of the 2009 Award for Teaching Excellence. She has been listed in New York Magazine, Castle Connolly, and the Guide To America’s Top Pediatricians. Meryl has also been included in The Best Doctors in America 2009-2010 database.
Meryl and her husband, Phil, have two sons. She enjoys reading, biking, spending time in the Berkshires and traveling. She is also an active member of her local community, serving on numerous boards and committees.
